I don't know how I developed this blood clot for which I'm currently undergoing treatment, but it might have something to do with the fact that I have been more sedentary than usual. Getting my book out has meant a lot of time at the computer. But the blood clot is a wake-up call that I need to get moving again. I will consult with my primary care provider when I see her tomorrow to ask what sorts of activities are appropriate.
Blood clots can form if you are in one position for a long time. That is why when traveling, it is recommended that you get up and walk to the restroom or walk up and down the aisle of the plane every hour or so.
Of course, I also know how important exercise is to keep the muscles as limber as possible when someone has PD. Now I just need to put that knowledge to work! I think that wanting to be able to discontinue injecting myself with a very expensive drug called Lovenox will be excellent motivation to get me up off of my rear end.
Don't wait for an incident like a blood clot to get yourself moving! If you aren't already exercising regularly, talk to your doctor about what is appropriate for you.
